BEST STUDENT TROPHY Reservist

The Association has purchased a trophy for presentation to the best student on the Class One Movement Controller Course (Reservist).

The trophy was commissioned in memory of Major A C Rhodes WRAC.

Major Ann Rhodes WRAC (Women’s Royal Army Corps) served for 22 years in the Army, finally retiring in November 1961. She had been a life member of the Movement Control Officers Club (MCOC) and then the Movement Control Association (MCA) until her death in early 2009.

She is one of the few early females to have served in movements. We unfortunately have little of her service history. We do know that she spent time in mainly staff appointments working in Movements on the Liverpool Landing Stage from 1949 until late 1955, from there she was posted to Yeovil and then moved on to become involved in processing WRAC drafts through Southend Airport in 1958.

She retired to Beulah in Breconshire in 1961 on leaving the service, but kept up her interest in movements through the MCOC and the MCA.

She very kindly left a bequest in her will to the MCA to be used to foster the aims of the Association and encourage membership.

The trophy will be held in the 162 MC Regt RLC(V) trophy cabinet in Grantham and will be presented to Best Student after a panel of judges have decided on their final presentation.  The trophy will then be engraved with their name and retained at Grantham.  The winning student will be presented with a memento to keep.
