Presentation of the MCA award for the Best Student

Army Training Flight

Defence Movements School (Deepcut)

Movement Controller Class 1 Course

Final Presentation

5th December 2008

The fourth MCA award for the best student on the Movement Controller Class 1 Course took place in the Fernyhough Theatre at Deepcut on Friday 5th December 2008 when the three finalists presented their chosen subjects to a panel of judges consisting of: Colonel Mike Russell, Commandant Defence Logistic Supply School, Captain Paul Watt RLC OC Army Flight, DMS, Ron Cockings MBE and John Collier MBE representing the MCA and WO1 Paul Colwell RLC.

The finalists were Corporals Keevash and Chree.

Each had prepared a very impressive presentation on their chosen historical subject which they then had to give to the assembled audience of representatives from the various units of the students on the course, plus the judges. They were as you would expect a little nervous, but hid it well.

Corporal Keevash (of HQ Brunei Garrison) chose ‘The Berlin Airlift’ as his subject and produced some very interesting comments on the movements functions associated with the problems of the blockade of Berlin.

Corporal Chree (of 17 Port & Maritime Regiment RLC) chose ‘Op Granby’ as her subject, which was about the First Gulf War and its movement problems, an ambitious choice of subject given the number of senior people in the audience who had taken part in the movements associated with this operation.

The standard of these presentations was as usual of a very high standard and there was little to separate them, but after much deliberation by the panel of judges the final winner was Corporal Keevash, who was presented with a silver notebook with the RLC crest by Ron Cockings MBE on behalf of the MCA.

Editor Note: The winning presentations can be found in the Journal (Issue 18) and the others will also appear on the website so keep watching out for them.
